Finding Courage in the Midst of Fear
Takeaway: We can find courage when we recognize God’s presence in our fears.
Context
This moment happens during a storm when Jesus walks on water. His disciples are out in a boat, struggling against the waves. They see him and are terrified, thinking he’s a ghost. Jesus steps in to calm their fears and remind them he’s there.
Meaning
Imagine being in a small boat during a storm. The wind is howling and the waves are crashing. Then you see someone walking on the water. You’d be scared too. The disciples felt that fear. But Jesus tells them to take courage. This isn’t just a command. It’s an invitation to trust him. He acknowledges their fear and immediately reassures them.
We all have moments when fear grips us. It might be about our jobs, health, or relationships. Jesus reminds us that he’s with us even when we can’t see him clearly. Courage doesn’t mean we won’t feel afraid. It means we choose to act despite our fears. When we recognize that God is with us, we can find strength to face whatever life throws our way.
Live It
- When you feel anxious, take a moment to breathe deeply and remember that God is with you.
- Call a friend and share something you are afraid of. Let them encourage you.
- Write down three things you’re grateful for this week. Focus on the good that’s still present.
Reflect & Pray
Reflect: What fears are holding you back right now? How can you remind yourself of God’s presence in those moments?
Pray: God, thank you for being with me in my fears. Help me to see you clearly when I feel scared. Give me the courage to trust you more.
